New Beginnings

Hi, and welcome! If you’re reading this, we’ve probably met—or maybe not. Either way, I’m Mike Davies, and I’ve been making music for as long as I can remember. I sing and play guitar, both in bands and as a sideman for various projects. Over the years, I’ve performed and collaborated in different ways, depending on the needs of the music and the artist.

A few years ago, I felt the need to focus on creating and capturing my own songs, and that’s how Watching the Buzzards came into being. The songs start with me—at least, that’s how it’s been so far—and then I work with some incredible musician friends to develop and bring them to life. I play live as often as I can, sometimes solo, but whenever possible, with the full band.

The idea behind this blog is simple: to share what we’re up to—writing, recording, performing, and everything in between. Think of it as a journal of our journey, and if you’d like to keep up with us, you can sign up for our mailing list. We promise not to spam you—expect updates about once a month (give or take).

Studio & Shows

As of February 2025, we’ve got enough songs for a couple of albums, and we’ve officially started recording. A few weeks ago, we spent a day at The Ranch Production House laying down drums for an initial batch of eight songs. It was a fantastic and productive session, and now we’re moving on to the next stage—tracking the remaining instruments from our respective home studios. There’s no strict timeline, but we’ll share a progress update in early March.

Live-wise, we kicked off the year with our first full-band show at Heartbreaks for Burns Night. Huge thanks to Colin McAllister for addressing the haggis, Pegasuses and Interesting Wallpaper for their brilliant performances, and everyone who came along to make it such a great night.

Next up, we’ve got a couple of acoustic shows:

🎸 Wednesday, February 19 – Overdraft, with Pegasuses and Lucy Kitchen

🎸 Saturday, February 24 – Bursfest (Bursledon Village Hall, 2 PM)

That’s all for now—thanks for reading.

Keep watching and listening.

Mike
